At Pilgrim, we have a genuine desire to love and serve in the name of Christ. This means we are deeply committed to welcoming everyone without judgment. We respect our diversity of opinion and expressions of faith and see this diversity as a strength. We are committed to being a safe church for everyone.
Worshipping together grounds us. Our worship style is highly inclusive and on any given Sunday you will hear many different voices, including those of our youngest members. We are committed to being an intergenerational and intercultural church. In recent years, we have been enriched by the gifts of our Pasifika members.
We offer intentional hospitality to those who are struggling, and our community garden and open pantry are just two ways in which we serve the community. We nurture those seeking spiritual connection through prayerful worship, our ecumenical meditation group and strong pastoral connections.
We strive to be good and responsible stewards of all God’s resources in our care and are diligent in ensuring that what we have is used to serve God’s mission, locally and beyond.
A short history
A Methodist chapel was first built on the Bayview road site in 1888 and the current brick building was built in 1931. In 1977 the Bayview Road Methodist church became part of the Uniting Church in Australia and, in 1989, another historic merger saw four Yarraville and Footscray congregations come together on this site. The building was renovated to reflect the shared history of these different communities.
Check out the history trail on the hall stand, the 1990 unity stained glass window behind the communion table, and the museum space on the mezzanine floor in the foyer.
We are proud to continue Pilgrim’s long tradition of faithful worship, witness and service within our local community.
In 2023, members of Altona Meadows/Laverton Uniting Church amalgamated with Pilgrim and this has been a joyful and enriching period for all.
